▌Tour AThe Suhua highway improvement project (Ilan county) The Suhua highway improvement project is a major highway project in northeast part of Taiwan to improve and bypass dangerous sections due to torrential rain from typhoon and triggered landslides of the Suhua highway, part of provincial highway no.9. The southern end of this project is close to Taroko National Park, which is well-known sightseeing spot.

This project is divided into three parts: Su’ao-Don’ao section under operation, Nan’ao-Hopin section under construction, and Hezhong- Dacingshuei section under construction, for a total length of 38.8 km. The total length of the tunnels is about 23.4km. Nan’ao-Hopin section and Hezhong- Dacingshuei section of this project are destined to be completed until 2020. Nan’ao to Hopin section plays a significant role in this project, including Guanin tunnel (the longest tunnel) and Gufeng tunnel. It encounters complex geological conditions, ecological environment and environmental protection issues and cultural heritage, etc. Moreover, it considers advanced highway disaster prevention facilities during operation phase. So, it is interesting to visit due to a lot of features of this project.

▌Tour BConstruction of the bridge engineering for Ankeng Light Rail across Xindian River (or Construction of the San-Ying Rapid Transit System) (New Taipei City)

*This tour may subject to change based on actual construction progress.

The Ankeng Light Rail Line has a total length of 7.5km with 5 elevated stations and 4 at-grade stations. After revenue service, it can connect to Station Shisizhang of Taipei MRT Circular Line. Through Taipei MRT road network, the metropolitan areas can be easily accessed. It is estimated that travel time from Ankeng to Taipei can be reduced by 20 minutes.

In order to cross the 400m-wide Xindian River, the comprehensive considerations of flood prevention, route alignment, track demand, and structure type are applied. After that, a three-span continuous asymmetric inclined steel truss composite bridge with a length of 502m is adopted. The length of span is 225m, 150m, and 127m, respectively.

The bridge tower is about 130m high and has a deflection angle of 80 degrees. The structure system consists of 6 pairs of 20cm diameter wire rope with 55~73 strands and a steel truss main beam about 10 m high. Moreover, considering the special bridge shape and tower height exceeding 100m, the interaction between the bridge and the aerodynamics is very difficult to fully control during design phase. Therefore, aerodynamic parameters obtained by wind tunnel test are utilized for design verification. Also, the vibration response of the bridge structure under the wind load can support to evaluate the bridge stability under the design wind speed. Therefore, the wind tunnel test is separately carried out during the design process to examine the safety and comfort of the bridge under wind conditions.

The bridge crossing Xindian River with the main span of 225m is not only the characteristic of the whole project, but also the largest span track bridge in Taiwan. In the future, it is an important landscape landmark for Taipei and New Taipei City.

Capacity: 50 people
Schedule:
09:00 Depart from TICC
09:30 Ankeng Light Rail Line Construction Site
12:00 Lunch Break
13:00 Leave for Wulai - a town of nature and culture
13:40 Tour around Wulai town
16:00 Return to Taipei International Convention Center
▌Tour C Shimen Reservoir Sluicing Tunnel Project (Taoyuan city) Shimen Reservoir is the most important reservoir of north Taiwan which has the function of irrigation, generate electric power, water supply, preventing flood and tourism. After 50 years of use, the reservoir has experienced severe siltation. The capacity decreases from 3.09×108m3 to 2.01×108m3. Therefore, it has become an urgent issue to solve the siltation problem.

Water Resources Agency will promote a project to construction two sluicing tunnel, Amuping tunnel and Dawanping tunnel respectively. The first stage is Amuping tunnel, it has facilities of intake, tunnel, outlet, flushing pool and silt classification facility, etc. Total length is about 4,531 meters. Amuping tunnel will convey the silt by steel pipe that installed on the roof of tunnel and classify the silt into useful sand and useless mud, the useless mud will be stored in the flushing pool with a capacity of 200,000 m3. During typhoon and flood period, the tunnel will discharge the flood at a maximum flow of 700 cms and flush the stored mud into the downstream Dahan river.

The Amuping tunnel has been started at 2017 Nov. and the total construction period is about 48 months and the direct cost of the project is 4.286×109 NTD.

Capacity: 50 people
Schedule:
09:00 Depart from TICC
10:30 Shimen Reservoir Sluicing Tunnel Construction Site
12:30 Lunch Break
14:00 Continue tour at Shimen Reservoir
16:00 Return to Taipei International Convention Center

▌Tour DTaiwan Taoyuan International Airport Terminal 3 Area Project (Taoyuan city)

In response to the rapid growth of the economy and air passenger and cargo volume in the Asia-Pacific region, Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, as a national gateway to the country, plays an important role in integrating with global economy and trade. The government has listed the Terminal 3 Area Project as a national key development at this stage. The Project aims to create a world-class passenger terminal with a macroscopic and forward-looking thinking, and provide high-quality airport service and experience.

The T3 Project will effectively galvanize the Taoyuan Aerotropolis and inject critical vitality and energy into the local economy. It will also help expand the overall domestic needs, boost Taiwan's job market, and even enhance investments in the financial and industrial sectors, contributing significantly to national growth. The Project will not only drive the local economy but also turn Taoyuan Airport into a hub in East Asia. The new Mega-Terminal starts from MFB, absorbing design ideas of being “smart, green and cultural”, will combine Terminal 2 to transform into a smart and sustainable airport, with functions of tourism, shopping, culture, art and technologies. It will create brand new travel experiences for passengers.

The design target year of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Terminal 3 is 2042, the design standard is Class A service level, design capacity is 45 million passengers / year, peak hour for arrival passenger capacity is 5,900 passengers / hour, 6,430 passengers / hour for departure. The lower structure of the terminal building is mainly a seven-story reinforced concrete structure of 450 meters × 230 meters wide, partial area adopt steel structure or steel reinforced concrete structure; the overall size of the roof is 414 meters × 234 meters which consists of the long-span steel Truss. The total floor area of the terminal is about 580,000 square meters (including the main terminal building, the concourse, the arrival and departure passenger boarding bridge, and the parking lot). The terminal is massive, the space configuration and the baggage and track transportation systems are complex, and there is a shield tunnel of airport MRT below needs to be protected, so the design and construction are extremely challenging and forward-looking. The terminal building foundation and apron construction have commenced in May 2017. The construction of the main terminal building is scheduled to construct in the third quarter of 2019. The overall project is scheduled to complete in 2023 and will operate in 2024 after completion of the Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) process.
